What is Indayo?
Indayo is an extended cycle combination oral contraceptive pill. It uses the female sex hormones levonorgestrel (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen) to effectively prevent pregnancy when taken as directed. Unlike 21 or 28 day birth control pills, Indayo extends the menstrual cycle to 91 days, with 84 active tablets and seven inert tablets. This allows you to only get your period once every three months instead of monthly.
How does Indayo work?
Like other combination hormonal birth control pills, Indayo works by using the hormones progestin and estrogen to prevent pregnancy. It inhibits the release of an egg from the ovaries and changes the thickness of the cervical mucus to decrease the chance that sperm can enter and a fertilized egg can become implanted.
