What is Cyestra-35?
Cyestra-35 is an oral tablet prescribed for the treatment of severe acne with associated symptoms of androgenization including seborrhoea and mild hirsutism in females. While Cyestra-35 is technically an effective form of contraception, it is not prescribed solely for the purpose of preventing pregnancy. Cyestra-35 is only prescribed for acne that has been unresponsive to topical therapy and oral antibiotic treatments.
How does Cyestra-35 work?
Cyestra-35 works by regulating the hormone levels that affect the skin. One of the active ingredients, cyproterone acetate, blocks the androgen (male hormone) receptors and reduces androgen synthesis. Meanwhile the other active ingredient, ethinyl estradiol, increases the levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), which reduces the free circulating plasma levels of androgens.
