What is Fluticasone?
Fluticasone is a medication that comes in either a nasal spray or an oral inhalation to treat different conditions. As a nasal spray, Fluticasone treats the symptoms of both allergic and nonallergic rhinitis, as well as nasal polyps. As an oral inhalation, it is used to prevent the symptoms of asthma through continued daily use. Some forms of Fluticasone are available over the counter as well as by prescription.
How does Fluticasone work?
As a corticosteroid, Fluticasone works by blocking the release of certain natural substances that cause the symptoms of allergies and asthma. The oral inhalation form decreases irritation and swelling in the airways to improve breathing and relieve chest tightness, wheezing, and coughing. Fluticasone nasal spray reduces swelling and mucus in the nose to treat hay fever, rhinitis, and nasal polyps.
