What is Propecia?
Propecia is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (also known as androgenetic alopecia) in people assigned male at birth (men), between the ages of 18-65. It contains finasteride which belongs to the Type II 5α-reductase inhibitor family of medications.
It’s important to note that most of the clinical testing done for Propecia was performed using people assigned male at birth between the ages of 18-41.
Propecia has not been studied in children or in people assigned female at birth. People who are pregnant or who may become pregnant should not handle Propecia.

How does Propecia work?
Propecia blocks an important enzyme (Type II 5-alpha reductase) involved in the regulation of the hair follicle and lowers the levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp.
Through this, finasteride interrupts a key factor in the development of hair loss in those people who are genetically predisposed to the condition.
What is Propecia used to treat?
Propecia is used as a treatment for male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) in people who were assigned male at birth, between the ages of 18-65.
This medication shouldn’t be used by people who were assigned female at birth, or anyone under the age of 18.
How do you take Propecia?
Most of the time, Propecia is taken once daily. It can be taken with or without food.
If you miss a dose of Propecia, don’t double-up on your next dose. Simply continue on with your prescription at your next dosage time as normal.
It’s important to note that it can take at least 3 months of consistent use, before hair loss ceases and any hair regrowth can be seen.
If you have any other questions about how to use Propecia, be sure to ask your Felix healthcare practitioner. They’ll be able to give you any guidance you need to use your medication safely and effectively.
