Canada is no longer experiencing a nationwide shortage of Ozempic®
We’re here to help you understand what’s going on and provide the most up-to-date information on Ozempic supply.
How do you know when a medication shortage is over?
A shortage occurs when there isn't a consistent supply of a particular medication. When this happens, pharmacies may not receive regular, predictable shipments so their inventory can vary from week to week; sometimes, they may have no inventory at all.
As of January 25, NovoNordisk, the provider of Ozempic, has confirmed they now have a stable supply and have removed Ozempic from the Canada Drug Shortage list.
Why was there a shortage of Ozempic in Canada?
Worldwide demand for Ozempic outpaced supply due to production delays with the pen mechanism that administers the medication.
As a name-brand drug, Ozempic is only produced by a single company. While aggressively ramping up production of the pen mechanism, NovoNordisk advised Health Canada to expect an intermittent shortage of Ozempic.

Providing alternative options
There are other GLP-1a medications similar to Ozempic that had stable supply during the shortage. Patients were able to talk to a Felix healthcare practitioner about exploring other options.
Shipping prescriptions consistently
We know how important it is to receive your medication. As one of Canada’s largest providers of Ozempic, we were able to ensure existing patients refilling their prescriptions through the Felix pharmacy never missed a shipment throughout the shortage.
Keeping patients informed
Unprecedented medication shortages can be stressful. We worked hard to provide options, keep everyone in the loop, and make sure our patients knew the situation was only a temporary hiccup.
