Where is the best place to inject Wegovy?

The easiest place to inject Wegovy is into the lower stomach area, about 1-2 inches away from the navel;. This also ensures that the medication gets absorbed into your bloodstream quickly and it's an easy-to-reach spot when injecting. 

You can also rotate injection sites between your lower stomach, upper legs (thighs), and upper arms if needed. Injecting into fatty tissue rather than muscle is also recommended as it helps absorption and reduces the burning or stinging sensations sometimes felt during the injection.

How to use a Wegovy pen

When preparing for an injection of Wegovy, it is essential to wash your hands and clean and dry the skin (with soap and water) beforehand to reduce the risk of infection and irritation. Never share needles when self-administering medications like Wegovy, as this increases the risk of contamination.

Using a Wegovy pen is a fast and straightforward process, but it's important to make sure that you follow the instructions below carefully.

First, check the expiration date of your pen — if it is expired, you'll need to use a new one. Clean the injection area, apply the needle tip to the pen and then turn the dose selector dial until the dose counter shows your current dose. Hold the pen with the needle in your skin at 90 degrees and press the injection button until all of the medication has been dispensed. Continue to hold the needle in your skin for a minimum of 6 seconds before you remove the needle. Finally, dispose of used needles safely.

It's also important to remember that Wegovy needs to be kept between 2 and 30˚C. Before your first use, it should be stored in a refrigerator (2 to 8˚C). After your first use, Wegovy can be stored at room temperature (below 30˚C) or in a refrigerator (2 to 8˚C) for 56 days. Refrigerating your medication can help keep it within the required 2 and 30˚C, but it is not necessary. If your Wegovy pen has been exposed to temperatures above 30˚C, has been out of the refrigerator for more than 8 weeks, or has been frozen, throw it out. 

Keep the pen cap on when not being used in order to protect it from light. Always remove the injection needle tip immediately after each injection and store your medication without a needle attached. This can help prevent blocked needles, contamination, infection, leakage of solution, and inaccurate dosing. If you have to travel with your pen or leave it out for any reason, Wegovy can be kept at room temperature (below 30˚C) for up to 56 days.
