What is Aventyl?
Aventyl is a tricyclic antidepressant medication which is used to treat low mood and depression. Aventyl is taken in capsules containing either 10 mg or 25 mg of the active ingredient, nortriptyline, and may be taken in multiple doses throughout the day. As with other antidepressants, Aventyl may cause an increase in suicidal thoughts, especially when the prescription is first started or when the dosage is increased or decreased.

Aventyl works by targeting the body’s central nervous system and balancing specific neurotransmitters in the brain in order to elevate the mood. The recommended dose for adults ranges from 30 mg to 150 mg daily. It may take a number of weeks before you are able to see the full effects of Aventyl.
