What is Linessa?
Linessa is a combination oral contraceptive pill that is prescribed to prevent pregnancy. It contains desogestrel (a progesterone) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen). Linessa comes in both 21 and 28 day packs, with one pill taken at the same time every day. Linessa packs contain three active dosing phases with a different amount of hormones in each, then one phase (seven days) of inactive tablets.
How does Linessa work?
Linessa works by preventing ovulation and thickening the cervical mucus. Without birth control, the female body releases one egg from the ovaries every month. Linessa blocks this process from occurring, and also makes changes to the cervical mucus in order to make it more difficult for sperm to enter the uterus and an egg to attach to the uterine walls.
