What is Jencycla?
Jencycla is an oral contraceptive pill, also known by its generic name, norethindrone. Unlike combination birth control pills, which contain both estrogen and progestin, Jencycla contains only progestin. As a result, whereas 28 day combination birth control contains 21 active and 7 inactive tablets, Jencycla contains 28 active pills which need to be taken consecutively with no break between packs.
How does Jencycla work?
Jencycla works by suppressing ovulation in about 50% of users, and thickening the cervical mucus in order to make it more difficult for sperm to penetrate and a fertilized egg to implant. It also slows down the movement of the ovum through the fallopian tubes. Your period should occur during the final seven days of each pack.
