Diabetes Care at Felix Overview

Key Takeaways

Who is eligible for diabetes care  at Felix?

Felix is able to support many individuals with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. However, there are times where in-person care is recommended, for example those who require insulin or have severe kidney disease.

There are a variety of factors that your health practitioners will assess in order to determine your risk of diabetes, such as your symptoms and your labs.

Patients must reside in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, or British Columbia and be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada. Patients are required to be in Canada while receiving care.

What treatment resources do you offer?

Our healthcare practitioners offer a variety of treatment resources, ranging from medications, to lifestyle and dietary adjustments.

How does the program work

The Felix program has been carefully designed with guidance from diabetes management specialists to be sustainable and easy to follow. The treatment resources we offer are medically backed and provided by healthcare practitioners who are diabetes informed and there to support you along the way. If you have done your labs, been diagnosed, and are approved to receive care, your first treatment plan will last around 12 weeks, or approximately 3 months.

Before your first renewal visit, you will need to repeat some lab work. Learn more about lab testing in this blog.

How much does the program cost?

We charge an initial fee of $99. This covers:

  1. Your initial virtual visit with your Felix healthcare practitioner.
  2. Lab testing, interpretation, and potential diagnosis
  3. Personalized treatment plan (if necessary)
  4. Some essential supplies you may need, including a blood glucose monitor.

You will have a follow-up visit with your healthcare practitioner between weeks 10 to 12 of your treatment plan to monitor your progress and make any adjustments to your care  to make sure it is working for you. These follow-up visits cost $40 each.

Treatment plan costs for the program are separate and will vary depending on your care and private insurance coverage. Without insurance, the costs vary from $12.89 per fill to approximately $889 in some cases. The table below summarizes the potential costs.

Before speaking with your healthcare practitioner about your treatment plan, ensure that you speak with your insurance provider to confirm if you have insurance coverage. If you have insurance coverage, our Felix Pharmacy partner can submit the insurance claim directly on your behalf.

How much is covered by insurance? Will Felix help fill out my insurance forms to help cover it?

Depending on your private insurance plan or provincial health plan, you may be covered for your treatment supplies. Before speaking with your healthcare practitioner about your care , ensure you contact your insurance provider for more information regarding your coverage.

If your insurance provider requires special authorization in order to provide coverage, your practitioner may be able to complete this form. If the required information is limited to your care through Felix (i.e. does not require information regarding past treatments received externally), and if your practitioner deems it appropriate to do so, they can complete this for a fee.

We recommend that you upload your private and/or provincial benefit card during your online visit so that our pharmacy partner can apply any coverage you are eligible for, before shipping your treatment supplies.
