Beyond the “Eat Less, Move More” Narrative: Overcoming Weight Loss Stigma With Modern, On-Demand Treatment Options

Key Takeaways
  • We’ve been told for decades that losing weight is easy, despite the fact up to 70% of our weight is determined by biological factors that are often beyond our control
  • Modern weight loss treatments can help address the biological factors influencing our weight, but many folks are hesitant to ask for help due to the stigma surrounding medication
  • Felix has launched a weight loss campaign to spark an important conversation about weight loss, and remind Canadians looking to manage their weight asking for extra support isn’t cheating

For decades, we’ve been told losing weight is easy. Calories in, calories out. Eat less, move more. Yet, that isn’t everyone’s experience, and the reality is much more complicated. At Felix, we believe it’s time to change the narrative around weight loss as a matter of willpower and remind folks looking to manage their weight it’s okay to ask for help. So, we launched a campaign to spark an important conversation about weight loss treatment.

There’s so much noise around weight loss — it can be overwhelming. Everyone has an opinion on how to lose weight, and, somewhere along the line, people started to believe there’s only one ‘right’ way to do it. But what happens when someone does all the right things, and they still don’t see the results they’re looking for?

They often start feeling like they failed. They start wondering if they’re the problem when they’re not.

Weight Loss Isn't Just About Willpower

Up to 70% of our weight is determined by biological factors like genetics and hormones, that diet and exercise alone can’t always overcome. For the 1 in 4 Canadian adults classified as overweight or living with obesity, these biological factors often need to be addressed in addition to healthy lifestyle changes to manage weight effectively. Modern treatment options backed by science can help tackle the biological factors influencing our weight, but they’re surrounded by a lot of stigma.

It’s time to stop believing that medication is a quick fix or an easy way out. Some people need extra help on their weight loss journey, and that’s okay. Weight loss treatment isn’t cheating — and we’re ready to shout it from the rooftops (or rather, from the walls of Bloor-Yonge station). We hope this campaign will begin to help remove some of the shame and blame associated with asking for medical weight loss support.

Felix is proud to offer a weight loss program that allows Canadians to access treatment tailored to their needs, on their terms. The program was designed to give patients options by providing prescription medication, recommended lifestyle changes, and 24/7 personalized support from our licensed healthcare practitioners — all online, from the comfort of home.

Everyone should feel comfortable asking for the help they need, and everyone deserves access to on-demand, judgment-free care in the way that works best for them.

Catch our ads throughout Toronto’s Bloor-Yonge station, on streaming platforms like YouTube and Crave, and on select TTC streetcars throughout the city.
